Hey! Welcome to my website! My name is Skylar Kaplan and I am originally from Atlanta, Georgia. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Art and Technology from The Ohio State University. I have been very fortunate to have had internship opportunities, where I was able to learn and develop my skills within the industry. I am looking to pursue a career in Design and Motion Graphics/Animation.

Statement of Intent
I cannot remember when my interest in art began; it feels like it has always existed. I grew up with a creative mindset, whether it be through schoolwork, my approach to conflict resolution or my leisure time, art is a central part of my life. Over time, as my interests grew, and my world expanded, my artwork matured both conceptually and visually. When exploring my college options, I was looking for a highly ranked art and technology program while still offering me the “full college experience”. My research led me to The Ohio State University, which offered the best education, and would provide the best environment for me to grow and strive for success.
Through my participation in the foundations courses, I was able to experiment with all media. Rather than simply taking the courses to determine a level of interest in them, I experienced the courses as a way to develop new techniques within which I could incorporate art and technology. For example, I found that components of my work in art and technology began to transform into interactive pieces and sculpture while taking the sculpture foundations. As I further my education with an art and technology emphasis, I find that my natural comfort with the medium is what allows me to push the barriers and to see what I am capable of creating. I realize that the ideas and concepts that I pursue are plausible and it motivates and energizes me.
While I learned about art as offered in high school, I am mostly self-taught, creating challenges and strengths. In the past, as my concepts began to develop, it was difficult to fully and effectively achieve a level with which I could be somewhat satisfied, because my techniques were only what I was able to discover and learn on my own. Once I began at this university, I was able to learn from professors with far more knowledge and experience in the art world who began teaching me new media and showing me how to go deeper with my work. At first this presented me with a challenge, because while every work that one creates is somewhat a form of trial and error and a process of learning and growth, I had a concern that my background was holding me back from what I really wanted to create. However, I learned to hurdle self-inflicted limitations, and this experience and exercise became a strength. My drive to learn and expand is greater than ever and my artwork has been, simultaneously, improving, maturing, and reaching a level of satisfaction that does not leave me content or complacent, but encourages me to want to further my education through the Art and Technology program.
